Day One of the GREAT Magickal Release Countdown!

Nothing and no one can stop you from thinking Great! Successful! Thoughts!

2010 The GREAT Magickal Release Countdown!
30 Day Challenge to an Awesome New You!
by Silver RavenWolf

Last year several FaceBook and MySpace friends joined me in our first HedgeWitch Year-End RELEASE challenge!  Starting December 1st, each day we made  an effort to release at least one thing from our lives that carried negative feelings, dirt, clutter, or emotional stress!  We realized that if we wanted great, neat, new, cool things to enter our lives, we wouldn’t get them if we didn’t make room for them.  In reality, you can’t receive if you don’t let go.

In the old days they called this release energy — sacrifice — a heavy word that carries too many violent connotations for the modern mind.  Even saying the word can conjure fear, anxiety, or panic — feelings that are not conducive to creating a sound, psychological platform for any spell or working for positive change if your goal is focused on the harmony of the higher mind, body and spirit.  The word — release — indicates we have a choice that carries a positive spin.

It is human nature (I believe) that we all hoard in some form or manner.  There are folks that gather physical stuff and those who collect things we cannot see; but, certainly feel.  Regardless of your type of collection — it doesn’t hurt to do some sort of cleansing on a cyclical basis.  Last year I chose the calendar year-end for a physical and psychological deep cleaning because it can be a time of year when emotional stress reaches its height due to the big four (in America) holidays that roll out in quick succession — Halloween, Thanksgiving, Yule, and New Year’s.   Usually, Halloween is the most fun with the least amount of psycho-drama,  Thanksgiving motors in with its family squabbles, Yule with its financial pressures, and finally the calendar New Year squats in the detritus of the other three holidays.  By January 2nd you are tired, broke, and stuck with a filthy living environment not to mention hurt feelings from some family bullshit that occurred along the way.

Okay…so…that’s for the regular people.  But, we’re not normal, are we?  Nope!  We are the magickal folk  that totally understand we live in the world of energy and if it ain’t going our way — we fix it, because we know how powerful our minds really can be and that what we think — we create.  Which means that putting a little twinkle in our lives to make the world a better place (and ourselves happier) is something we know how to do.  So…why not do it!

To make the Great Magickal Release Challenge more interesting last year, I broke each day’s entry into three parts — the what-you-get-to-do-today section first, and then my diary on how these suggestions were working for me as the second part.  Your posts became the third and vital section, keeping us all working together by adding your own thoughts and feelings.  This worked so well that we’re going to keep the same format this year.  Every day, we’ll focus on one little, itty-bitty, part of our lives or environment with the agreement that by the time we’re done all the small steps we’ve made will culminate in a happy, successful, delightful holiday season.

So!  Beginning today, start pitching, giving away, and letting that ratty old, broken stuff go!  If you start vacillating over something, then ask yourself this:  Have I used this item in the last six months?  If you haven’t, odds are you won’t ever.  If you counter yourself with the — I can fix it — excuse, ask yourself this:  Have you bothered to fix the item in the last three months?  If the answer is No! — its gotta go!  If you think:  I can sell this, — that’s really a great idea; BUT, did you bother to sell it in the last six months?  No?  Out it goes!

December 1st — Today’s Release Suggestion:  Go into your bathroom with a trash bag in hand.  Throw away all those old toiletries, cosmetics, and other junk that tends to gravitate there.  Get rid of the ratty magazines, the crusted and bent toothpaste tube, the errant and wandering old toothbrushes and razors, and that mouthwash brand  your sister left when she was visiting last month.

Join the challenge to discover the whole new, magickal you! Look forward to your goal of January 1st, with an eye on good health, happiness, positive abundance and love.  You can do it!  As often as I can I’ll be posting my own progress.  Be sure to add your comments and include the stuff you’re releasing, too.  By letting go of physical objects and the energy that collects around them we allow the experiences we truly desire to manifest in our lives in a faster easier way.  Don’t delay — start pitching today!

To make things a little more easier for you, I’ve written a special article on a Braucherei daily ritual that takes only minutes to do.  Give it a once over and see if you might like to add it to your own 2010 Great Magickal Release Challenge!

The Rules of this Year’s Challenge

1.  You must get rid of something every single day.  Give it away, throw it away, sell it…whatever.  It must leave your living or working environment on that day.  (Not set aside until tomorrow.)  If you don’t release old, nasty, broken stuff — you won’t be able to get great new stuff in your life because there is no room.  If your living or working area is filthy and a mess — all that dirt hold negativity.  If you can’t walk through a room, how do you expect to run to your goal?

2.  If you’ve already done my suggestion for the day — you don’t get to skate — you must choose something else.  Be creative and share with us!

3.  If you are traveling or not at your place of business or residence, start by cleaning out your purse, travel bag, briefcase, vehicle and make note of what you’ve missed on the general list to do later, when you arrive back home.

That’s it!  One thing, every day.  Oh, yes, we’ll get to that refrigerator, too — I just didn’t want to hit you with the big stuff right away.  Give you a chance to ease into the program; but, don’t worry, the molding food’s days are numbered.

In service

  1. Loving it! I’ve JUST decluttered my entire bathroom… i caught myself out a few times saying “oh but i might use it…” and then i said “nope, i havent used it in the last 6 months, out it goes!!!” I have the bag of trash at the front door, i will be taking it out to the bin tomorrow morning =)

    Looking forward to tomorrows step!

  2. How funny! In my bathroom there are really two old crusted toothpaste tubes! Out they went along with old cosmetics and toiletries.
I look forward to realsing something each day. By the way, thank goodness you are saving the fridge for another day!

  3. Love it. I’m at the office so I started with all the loose work papers that have piled up in mo office. Into the shredder and then recycling box they go! Tonight I’ll tackle the bathroom!

  4. This is something I also start doing every year at this time! If it hasn’t been used over the previous year, then it goes! It’s a great way of keeping clutter under control. I also go through files…you know, the receipts you’ve kept over the past year ‘just in case’. I clean them out and shred what is no longer needed…..and that’s about 99% of them.

  5. Starting it up again. I have already cleaned out all the old cosmetics during my October travels with my music – but am going through it all again as soon as I get home. The bathroom is a wonderful place to start – especially when you have a Hefty bag full of $h1t to throw away. 😉

  6. Just threw away a bunch of useless toys, old hard candy and the like from my work space. Going to knock my supervisor in the head and put her in the trash too. “Joking on that one”. 🙂

  7. I’m out of work in 10 minutes and on my way to clean out my bathroom! Oh, and I’ve been AWESOME today! Thank you Silver! This is fabulous!

  8. Hey Silver!
I absolutely LOVE this – what a great idea! I can’t commit to following along with you every day because I just did a major cleaning of our apartment before our houseguest arrived (last week before Thanksgiving) – and I was merciless! Threw out all kinds of old crap from the bathroom, the fridge, all the old mail, old receipts shredded, etc. etc.! Wiped down and cleaned every surface too. It feels amazing so I’m looking forward to all your readers feeling that same sense of freedom and openness!
I also cleaned out my desk at work in November, so the energy is wide open for authors … umm, maybe even YOU… to send in new manuscripts!! : )
Happy December, lots of hugs your way!

  9. Hello Silver, i wasn’t sure if you wanted the comments here or on facebook but i am glad i found your post of this challenge! I think it is brilliant to do this before the new year! I was thinking to myself, ill wait until the new year to start purging, but why not now even better! Thank you! I started with my bathroom and threw out a ton of things it feels better already. I also wanted to thank you for posting the small ritual to go with the purging. I look forward to tomorrows post! I hope you are having a fantastic day!

    Many Blessings

    1. I’m having a great day, thank-you — and all the better with the comments to the Release Challenge! Last year was a wonderful success, with so many folks pitching in and changing things for the better. I hope this year surpasses the last one! Glad to have you aboard! Keep us posted on your accomplishments. We do want to hear.

  10. OMGoddess I can’t wait to get started, funny enough I must have known this was coming because I cleaned out the bathroom cosmetics yesterday. i’ll find something else to clean and post about it YAY

  11. What a wonderful challenge and timely for what I am feeling. I’ve been stuck lately, not feeling grounded, not feeling energetic in any manner. It’s time to make room for all of the abundance that 2011 has in store for us.

  12. This came on a PERFECT day, I’ve had the day from HELL. I going to clean out a bunch of old prescription bottles out of my desk drawer. That is FIRST. I had already started on my desk this past weekend, this now gives me reason to continue on. And I REALLY need some positive things in my life right now.

    Peace, love and light!

  13. Ok…I’m in! So looking forward to releasing everyday this month….I’ll let you know how things are going….til then blessed be….what a wonderful mentor you are!

  14. I had the best time cleaning out my bathroom. I was sure there wouldn’t be that much since we’ve only been in the new house for about six months; but with my one month old son in the picture we had accumulated a great deal more crap than I realized. Anything that did stay got a good scrubbing too! Thank you so much…I’m looking forward to the days ahead.

  15. I cleaned out the bathroom last June when some other (ahem) negative energy left my living space. However, I’m going to run through it again, and the cosmetics bag really does need a makeover. (Matter of fact, so do I!).

    Day One, whoo hoo!

  16. I was just thinking this morning, that since the end of the year is coming around I ought to do a decent clean out of junk and other accumulated mess. I didn’t realise you had a blog, until I found a link to this on another blog I follow. I LOVE synchronicity! Thank you!

Now off to the bathroom – I’m a bit of a cosmetics junkie – this could be as hard as the fridge for me!

  17. How awesome to be drawn to this blog tonight as I am preparing for some radical changes in the coming new year! The irony is that I “stumbled” upon a book called “To Ride A Silver Broomstick” as a 19 year old perched on the edge of a total life change. That was more years ago than I’ll admit, but I’m glad to have your writing back in my life again. Thanks.

  18. A great stress point is the mess I have at work with all the dodads I have collected with the intentions of making items to sell in my shop but never seem to have the time soooooo…..out when a bunch of stuff. Some to one of my top crafters and the rest to the big green truck that makes its rounds once a week. I can actually see my table top now.

    1. I did that myself, Sharon, and you know what? Spirit brought great and wonderful ideas to me the moment I gave most of my crafting stuff away. But, that was okay, because except for one or two things, I had everything I needed; AND when I went out to get the things I didn’t have anymore, I had a lovely time with my daughter-in-law — So! The lesson — get rid of stuff to receive great people experiences. lol

  19. Just saw this challenge last night. I have 2 days of “stuffs” to clean out and catch up on today… HOLY CRAP! lol.
LOVE this. Love YOU for creating it and sharing. YOU are AWESOME Lady Silver!!

  20. I’m a day late starting, but just found this…woo hoo!! Perfect! I’m headed to the bathroom now & then off to see what Day #2 brings.

    Thanks!

  21. Hi Silver!! Thanks so much for doing this challenge!! I am needing to ask a question about the lesser banishing ritual…. I could not find it in your Solitary Witch book, but I did find it in your Angels book, is that the same one? I had already cleaned out my purse, and I did the bathroom today, I didn’t realize all the crap I had in there!! (I actually did 2 bathrooms) It does feel good to get rid of that ol yucky stuff!!

  22. Okay, it’s Dec 2, but I just found this and I am not going to let being late stop me. This is just what I needed to keep me focused on getting organized.

  23. I am starting today because i just saw this and well I’ll have to double it up O_O dec 1 and dec 2 stuff right. Getting to work right now.

  24. Out of town for a few days and am playing catch-up on this wonderful idea.

Just finished up this task, and it’s amazing the release I already feel. The energy in the two bathrooms already seems less dense and overwhelming. Looking forward to the rest, thank you Lady Silver!

  25. Thanks Mama Silver, I think this is just what my house needs. With all the stress flying about, it’s hard to stop and isolate sources of unhappiness or tenseness. So I got here late, but it’s never too late to start. Both bathrooms are going to be attacked as soon as I finish my english homework!

    1. You’re right Emily, it is not too late to start. Do what you can, go with the flow, your higher self will guide you. We’re happy to have you with us!

  26. I am really late starting this! But, I will do it all and catch up this weekend! I need all of the help I can get to get through this year and start fresh in the coming year!

    Thank you Silver………..you are a Goddess-send!

Angel Blessings and Angel Hugs from a long time supporter..

  27. Okay, so I’m running a little behind…actually got a late start, but cleaned out under the bathroom vanity and WOW! I had A LOT of junk in there! I can’t believe I’m going to admit this, but there was a bottle of mouthwash in the back that expired in 2006! Yikes! Can’t wait to get rid of so much more! Thanks for the guidance Silver!

    1. Geeze, I never even thought to check the expiration date on mouthwash — lol. We use it so fast here that never really entered my mind. Glad you got rid of it! I found ten stink bugs and something small that seems to have died in 1942 underneath the basement stairwell. Ug! In that moment, I was thanking Spirit that I’m nearsighted. The full impact didn’t quite permeate my senses. Paper towels. Paper bag. See ya. Yuck. It is surprising how much can accumulate in obvious places. I cleaned out the two junk drawers yesterday, and found, again, all sorts of strange stuff. And I just did those drawers in the early fall! Keep going, Melissa! You are doing great! You are Awesome!

  28. I’ve come to this a little late but made up for it by de-cluttering my desk and filing cabinet drawers. Next it’s my shelves and then a good old dust round. I had a huge clear out of clothes last Saturday, felt so good to see the space and give something to charity. (Knowing me I’ll end up buying some back).
What a wonderful idea this is, let’s make it a regular occurence. Yaaaaaaay!

    1. Thanks for the link to this blog, Kes.
Thank you Silver RavenWolf for your excellent motivation!
As our bathroom is tiny, there’s no room for accumulating crap…but I have thrown away my out of date contact lenses and an empty shampoo bottle!! It’s a start…and a journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.
Right, back to my paper shredding!!

  29. I am fully aware that I am SOO late with starting this, but I really could not have found this challenge at a much better time! I have been going through what feels like a never-ending spiritual crisis, where I can’t decide what I am anymore. I have been Wiccan for the last eight years, but as I grow older, and wiser, I realize that I have so many other interests that aren’t specifically Wiccan, but are definitely Pagan. So as I move through the hard transition of being a Wiccan, to being a Pagan, I think some household purging will definitely be a wonderful thing! Got to make room for all those new spiritual adventures that await for me!
Anyway! I did this challenge tonight, and let me tell you! My bathroom looks fantastic! I have a big bag of stuff to be donated, and I managed to recycle most of the other things 🙂 I really feel a lot better about myself, and my home, just just purging the stuff from the smallest room in the apartment! I can’t wait until tomorrow’s challenge! You’ll be hearing back from me regularly. I can assure you 🙂
