The Foundation —  Begin your day with the Braucherei Morning cleansing and empowerment exercise (please view first post of the program ).

This Week’s Theme — Peace in the Moment

This week we are going to practice Peace in the Moment — where each day you will pause for at least fifteen seconds (more if you can) filling your mind with white light and breathing deeply.  Hold that white light as long as you can — when a thought crosses your mind…any thought…the exercise is completed.  There is no wrong way to do this — white light…hold…hold…hold (remember to breathe deeply)…you’re done. If you like, continue to use the Peace Prayer in your daily activities (located in Day 2 of the program).  When you have finished with this week’s theme exercise, move on to today’s fun activities!

Silver’s Notes — The Process of Grief

Each year the Release Program focuses on letting go of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual negativity that clings to the self.  By practicing magickal and physical techniques, it is hoped that the program helps you to cope and move forward in a positive way.  Grief just isn’t about the loss of a loved one — it can be centered on issues of divorce, child custody, a relationship break-up, a job loss, the loss of a pet, a miscarriage, retiring by choice or by force, the loss of a friendship, your family home, a specific way of life (children leaving the nest, loss of significant income that forces you to change direction in life, or the loss of your home), or an attack on your character that ultimately takes away your self-esteem or your income, or a debilitating illness begins to rob the self of mobility and therefore takes away our freedoms…sigh…

A pretty long list.

Most of us have heard about the five stages of grief as set forth by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross.  “In 1969, psychiatrist Elisabeth Kübler-Ross introduced what became known as the “five stages of grief.” These stages of grief were based on her studies of the feelings of patients facing terminal illness, but many people have generalized them to other types of negative life changes and losses, such as the death of a loved one or a break-up.” —http://www.helpguide.org/articles/grief-loss/coping-with-grief-and-loss.htm

These stages are Denial (the world seems meaningless or overwhelming); Anger (lashing out because your real feelings are being denied, and the person feels lonely and abandoned or the intensity of their love burns with hatred for the loss); Bargaining (an endless plethora of mindless “what-if” self questioning); Depression (withdrawal from the world); and lastly, Acceptance (which is not “everything is okay now” — it is adjusting to a new way of living.

Not everyone goes through all the stages, nor do the steps always fan out in a prescribed order.  Grief, like everything else in the human condition — is unique.  Some people feel waves of feelings with highs and lows, where others may experience one stage full force, then somehow skip to the last step, then fall back to the second stage… the ways of experiencing grief are as individuals as yourself.  How long does the grief process last?  There is no firm answer due to the individuality of the circumstances.  Some say roughly a year — others perhaps two; but, even those numbers are not necessarily indicative of the time frame.

The best way to handle grief is to face your feelings, and then express those emotions creatively through art, music, or other activities that envelope the mind, body and spirit with new, pleasant experiences.  It is also important, during your time of grief, to take care of your physical health, as ignoring it can lead to bigger problems that will complicate the healing process, adding to the misery of the grief experience.

Grief, then, is a stressor that if not dealt with, can lead to larger problems that not only affect ourselves; but, also those around us in negative ways.  The minions of grief — Shock, Sadness, Guilt, Anger, Fear — can lead to abuse, major crime, discrimination, social imbalance, and war.

No one can tell you when to let your grief “go” — because it doesn’t really GO anywhere — if given its space, it heals and changes the self into a different, unique individual.  It is because of your grief  and the process of dealing with it that you can change and grow into an amazing and empowered person.  Out of grief some of the most incredible advancements on our planet have been made — and it is out of grief that some of our most despicable moments in history were born.

In the end — you choose.  The garden of light?  Or the box of hate.  When you come right down to it?  Most magickal seekers are individuals who have suffered some sort of intense grief — and out of that loss, have chosen to move forward in creativity and light with an open mind, rather than fall back into the dogma of the darkened box.

It is okay to grieve.
And…
It is okay to grow.

Magickal practices, such as spells, rituals, vision quests, shamanic harmonics, and acts of honor can help us to cope with our loss and move forward into the new experience of life wherein that which we loved — is lost (at least in the reality of the moment).  These activities can be a life-line steering us in the direction of comfort, love, healing, and accomplishment.  Most magickal people, I believe, have a strong sense of continuance — wherein we believe that something or someone is not LOST; but, changed in energy form.  With that concept — that nothing every really dies, that it merely changes form — we hold the wisdom that we must change as well to meet the new day.

Today’s Magickal Challenge

Today we’re going to study the Dag/Dagaz Rune.  You can apply the rune to your life using come of the exercises in previous posts; or, today you can consume the rune into your life by baking cookies, a pie, a cake, brownies, etc., and decorating them with the Dag Rune.  After they are cool, intone the name of the rune 9 times, then eat one of the cookies, the piece of cake, the brownie, etc, and as you chew — focus on the power of that rune and acknowledge that you are ingesting that power.  This technique was presented to the magickal community by Freya Aswynn, wherein she ate all the runes, one per day, contemplating on the power of the ingested rune.  I have had the pleasure of meeting Freya and spending enjoyable time with her.  Her technique absolutely works.

When you have completed baking and eating your rune, turn to your altar and white a light candle.  Intone the Braucherei Healer’s Prayer 9 times at your altar.  When you fill your field with healing light — you fill the world.
