Day 65 – The Magick of the People

The circumstances of the last several months have allowed me to stretch my activities in new and exciting directions. Yet, every day, I was reminded of down-home magick, and how it continues to serve the people. You know? Some days I didn’t even know WHAT day it was! One sunrise/sunset blended into the next, especially if I didn’t listen to the news. Yes, I had the internet; but, nothing I was doing insisted I know the day of the week to perform either work or leisure. I became more interested in tasks as they related to the weather and our living environment.

Depression wasn’t a part of my life because I always had something to do. A bit of string, a potato, beet juice, pennies, a stick from the woods…all the magickal supplies I really needed. The birds in our Wish Tree brought color and music, even on the coldest days. And although the household had its worries and concerns, there was peace in this place.

Most of the time.

During the “stay at home order” I had the pleasure of speaking with Jack Montgomery – author of American Shamans, Patrick Donmoyer – author of PowWowing in Pennsylvania and Hex Signs Myth and Meaning, and WitchDoctor Utu – author of Conjuring Harriet Mama Moses Tubman. I also touched base with Jake Richards – author of Backwoods Witchcraft. These are vibrant, passionate authors, who meld research with personal experiences to create amazing material that you can use! Each hour of discussion and learning was a precious jewel in my memory that I will never give up.

You Can Use –– the operative phrase.

Folk magick embraces the heart of humanity — no matter the culture, the country, or the race. Its healing rises above petty concerns, its living practice is as firm as the earth beneath our feet.

Your Challenge Today: Find One ordinary thing — and so something “spiritual” with it — spell, ritual, meditation — doesn’t matter. You choose.

Big Hugs
Peace with the Gods
Peace with Nature
Peace within!

PS: All of these authors have books “in the hopper” that they are currently working on. Look for them in the coming year!

  1. Fortunately, I have been able to stay grounded with the days of the week, because I practice Silver RavenWolf’s Morning Ritual. Thursday, Ruler of the day… I can honestly say that without this practice, I would certainly lose track!

My friend asked me if I would sew her a mask, so today I am going to do my spiritual thing by blessing the cloth to magickally protect her from COVID-19, as well as physically!

    Thanks for the suggestion! ❤

    1. Yep! I agree, without the Silver RavenWolf’s Morning Ritual I lose track of the days as they tend to blend one into the next. With this simple ritual there is a daily structure and an awesome new beginning for each day. I’m currently working through the Braucherei Granny Magick Lessons from many years ago and still relearning things I’ve forgotten. Love the blessing the cloth for the mask idea, that’s awesome! So when is another vibrant, passionate author we all know going to create another Braucherei class or course? Since we are all stuck at home we all need some down-home magick too! Please don’t make me beg!!!

  2. Thank you for your Daily Magick 🐺 🌺 I am a bit tired, but the first ordinary thing (where is also something “spiritual” with it) I thought about the key 🗝️ You can open doors with it, but also in Magickal sense “The Keeper of the Key” is very powerful; You can open the doors to unknown, portals, knowledge and powers.
