Day Eight of the Great Release Program
by Silver RavenWolf 2020

2nd Qtr Gemini Moon
Mercury in Capricorn sextiles Neptune in Pisces — a super creative day!  Capricorn is foundation and reward — Pisces is visionary and creative.  Opportunities for good fortune await!

Today’s Challenge:  Work with your House Spirit — this is an image you have chosen to represent your program goal.  You can make your symbol, use one you already have, or purchase something that appeals to you. Traditionally, it is believed that the house spirit icon or altar was situated in a corner, as where two walls meet holds the pattern of sacred space.  For this program, the house spirit you choose is a symbol of success in this program.  Write your goal on a piece of paper and place it under the image you have chosen.  Share with others how you are working with your house spirit in the comments section — we would love to hear!

For years I have been fascinated with household and personal “spirits” — objects in everyday life imbued with an energy of their own…thinking…laughing…protecting family members… enjoying the warmth in the winter and the cool, forest breezes of the summer.

The Garden Man is in honor of my father.  I built this interesting herb holder/statue a few years ago.  My father bought the clay head in the 1980’s.  I glued a wooden bowl to a tripod of sticks and straw.  The head contains some of my father’s ashes and his favorite booze — Jamieson Whiskey.  He loved his garden so we hang many of our bundles for magick and medicine to dry under his watchful gaze.  The pot underneath the head contains dirt, herbs, a petition, gemstones, and other assorted magickal trinkets.  In some cultures, it is believed that ancestors function as house spirits.

Octavia sits in the kitchen with her friends, guarding the entrance to the dining room.  Over time, family members have purchased several “friends” and toys for her.

Priscilla changes hats according to the season from her perch in the living room.  She oversees all healing circles held there.

Many cultures across the world believe that dolls and other objects have the ability to hold spirits that can affect the inhabitants of a place.  If this subject fascinates you, and you are interested in historical and cultural information on household spirits, check out Claude Lecouteux’s book — The Tradition of Household Spirits – Ancestral Lore and Practices, available through Inner Traditions and on Amazon.

  1. I have just finished sewing a spirit doll, or *dreamy doll* as I call them yesterday (or should I say today, very early in the morning… ahem) and as it looks, she is already settling in well. I just need to figure out where she’d like to reside in my apartment (also she had to dry first, glitter glue…).

  2. I did a New Year’s Oracular Tarot reading that perfectly embodies my goals for this year. I have made a copy of the cards, written their meaning on top, and I will place it in the corner of my Troll Village adjacent to theiir sacred Nemeton. That way everyone is on-board with the plan. I’m sure my Tompte has been befriended by my gregarious, Good Luck Trolls, which is good, because they can share their values of work and play to create balance with my home and projects! I will try to create an image of the Tomte today and place him near the “billboard” of intent. Should I put a pointer in his hand to ensure their focus? Hmmm…

  3. I am using 2 gargoyles that have been with me for about 10 years now. They sat under our Yule tree this year guarding our gifts. I’m sure they will be very pleased to officially have names, and I’m sure they will be overjoyed to have official jobs as well. 😃

  4. One week down already! So grateful to have this program to get in gear for the new year. This is my 4 year and it always sets me on the right path.
My house Spirit is currently a little marble cat that sets on my alter. While I realize the cat hold symbolism that transcends eons, to me, it represents tenacity, grace, playfulness, security and comfort. All these things we honor in our home. 😻❤️

  5. My household spirit is sitting with a pyramid prism. The prism is part of my healing altar. I hope each being connected to me gets the energetic vibrations they most need/desire. Even when I’m distracted or don’t know what people need, it is doing its business.

  6. I have chosen a Hummingbird as my house spirit for this year. I chose it because it symbolizes the enjoyment of life and lightness of being, being more present, independence, Bringing playfulness and joy in your life, lifting up negativity, swiftness ability to respond quickly, resiliency, being able to travel great distances tirelessly. These are in line with my main goal for this year and we will be doing some long distance traveling. I have a Jim Shore statue that I have placed at the heart of our home. I hope that is a good placement? I also picked up one that’s a car charm since we will be traveling by vehicle.

Since Silver talked about other house spirits I thought I’d tell you all about 2 others of mine. I have a dragon hanging by my front door who protects the house and those that enter. I also believe he helps keep the negativity out. His name is Rufus! And theres Melinda a little witch that sits in a corner of my kitchen. She over sees all nourishment and protects against kitchen accidents.

    1. I really like the hummingbird representation and the center of the home is a good placement. How cool — a dragon and a witch! Thank you so much for sharing your friends with us!

  7. Thinking I overthought or missed something- my house spirit isn’t really one item or animal or being. Its on paper- a mash up of images representing me, the family etc. Almost like a tattoo image. Theres a LOT going on- clover, pawprint, hawk, turtle, timepiece, my witch spiritual symptoms… should I revisit the drawing board?

  8. I am enjoying this year tremendously… I think this is my year… it feels different than other years- and I feel- rejuvenated! Thank you!

  9. I’m a little late, but here’s my post! My house spirit is a small golden (metallic with sparkles!) pig statue that can hold a small glass vase for flowers. We got it during the last Chinese New Year and he contained lucky bamboo which we still have but has moved to a new container. To me the pig represents happiness, tenacity, abundance, and humor. I consider the pig sacred to the goddess Hestia, which is an energy we work with a lot in my home with daily devotions. We’ll set him up near our candle for Hestia. When I light the candle for Hestia, I’ll also acknowledge the house spirit and imbue it with positive energy. Hoping to leave him little goodies as a symbol of our respect and aspiration to what he represents.
