Day One — 2011 Great Release Challenge!
Chasing the Clutter Bug

Good Morning!  Let’s begin our day with the Braucherei Morning Ritual — a five minute process geared to empower your body, mind, and soul.  I’ve posted the ritual on this blog in the Great Release Challenge category.  You’ll notice one or two little tweaks; but, the ritual is about the same as last year.  I kept it this way for those of you who have done the program before.  With familiarity in a practice comes heightened skill.  If you used the ritual last year, it should out-perform itself this year for you.  If this is your first time, you’ll be amazed at how quickly things start looking up, or better, or calmer…whatever you need…for you!  Follow the Braucherei Morning Ritual with your goal oriented candle (the white tea candle (or whatever color you desire) that I mentioned in the prep article posted earlier this week.  Be sure to take nice, deep breaths when doing any chanting — this helps to ground and center you, and allows your chi to flow in a healthy way.

The Sea of Potential

Did you notice the background change to this blog?  Looks like a sea, doesn’t it?  There’s even a cool fishing hook that moves down the page as you scroll.  I chose this background to highlight a very important aspect of this year’s release program.  You live in a sea of potential.  It flows all around you all the time.  It flows in and through you every moment of every day or night.  This sea of potential is one of the greatest assets you’ve been given to utilize on this plane.  Most people ignore it.  They just wade through it allowing their negative emotions and thoughts to poison the sea around them.  They can’t understand why things are so terrible for themselves or why they feel angry, frustrated, and hateful.  Bluntly, if you shit in this sea, then it is ka-ka that will flow around in and through you all the time.  If you clean up your thoughts and emotions, strive toward peace, tranquility, delight, joy, healing and happiness, then that is exactly what will manifest around you, in you, and through you.

It is a choice.

Your choice.

You choose how you think, what you think, how you express yourself, what you do, how you behave in any given moment, and what you say to yourself and others.  You choose the tone of your voice, whether or not to act negatively or positively in any given situation.  You decide whether to engage or disengage in any activity or function.

You.  Just you.  Nobody else.

Even though we probably already know that the choice is ours, when we’re in the trenches and things are difficult, we often forget.

So…

I have a solution for that.

I started working on a very simple, easy technique this summer and I have reaped enormous success with it ever since.  Give it a try and see what you think.

Sea of Potential Affirmation

Close your eyes and imagine that you are surrounded by a sea of golden light.  Say the following to yourself several times, visualizing your interpretation of this sea.

I know I live in a sea of pure potential.
The sea of pure potential flows around me, through me, and in me.
I am the sea
I am pure potential.
I know I can manifest anything I desire.

The visualization and statements work best if you:

a) Truly believe what you are saying, and
b) Allow yourself to feel the words

Practice this technique now, giving yourself time to “feel” the words and “see” the golden light all around you.

From this point, you can take the Sea of Potential idea and expand on it.  For example, if you are sick, you might try saying this:

I know I live in a sea of pure potential.
The sea of pure potential flows around me, through me, and in me.
I am the sea
I am pure potential.
I know I can manifest anything I desire.

The sea around me is filled with healing energy.
I breathe this healing energy in.
Healing energy moves through my body in a natural way.
I am healed in a safe and natural way.

Repeat:   “The sea around me is filled….” several times.  As you inhale pull the healing energy in, and as you exhale, allow the healing energy to travel to every cell of your body.  Nine times is best, three if you are in a hurry.

You can use this same visualization for other people.  For example, let’s say a dear friend is ill.  Imagine that person is sitting in front of you.  Surround the visualization of that person with gold light.  Repeat the entire Potential Affirmation (“I know I live in the sea of pure potential…) and then say the healing words at least three times, nine is best.  If the person is very ill, do the visualization three times a day.  If it is an emergency — do it until you can’t do it any more.

The Potential Affirmation can also be used in spellwork and general prayer activities.  Just cast your magick circle, call the quarters, invoke Spirit/Deity of your choice, intone your statement of intent, and then use the affirmation to raise power, repeating as often as necessary.  In prayer work, insert the Potential Affirmation before or after you intone your prayer selections, along with any addendums (like the healing example) that fit the intent of your work.

The Potential Affirmation works with any religion or magickal system, making it an ideal daily practice for a variety of situations.

Your Mission Today — The Clutter Bug

For our first task in this year’s program we’re going to chase the clutter bug.  Walk through every room in your house, apartment, trailer, flat (whatever) and pick up any and all clutter — newspapers, magazines, shoes, errant gloves and mittens, run away socks, pet toys, towels, sports equipment, etc.  Consider the old adage:  A place for everything and everything in its place. Our goal is to make a clear pathway through every room in the house.  We want energy, people, and pets to easily maneuver throughout your living space.  Cleaning, vacuuming, washing floors, dusting, etc., is so much easier if you don’t have to plan a strategy of movement around tons of junk.  Today, we move the junk.  If you have already cleared all the clutter in preparation for this program you get TWO gold stars today!  Don’t stop, though.  Read on and complete the rest of today’s challenge.

While you’re at it, keep a notebook handy.  Let’s write down a Wish List of what we might especially want to clean or get rid of this year — particularly those things that have been really bugging you; but, you’ve just been too darned busy, or tired, or stressed, or whatever to take care of it.  Save these ideas for a day when you are feeling super good and want to do more than the challenge listed, or perhaps you’ve already done the challenge for the day and need something else to do.  Pull out your Wish List and tackle one of those ideas!

Or, maybe you’ve already cleaned and straightened; but, you meant to put those shelves up in the bedroom closet; but never got to it.  Perhaps you bought yourself a garden shed in the fall; but, school started, the storm came, your dog got sick and you just never moved anything into it.  I promised my daughter this year that I would finish all my outstanding projects by the end of this year’s challenge.  It doesn’t matter what you want to get done, the idea is that you will do it in the next thirty days as a part of your personal challenge.

If you did the challenge last year, make note of what is all messed up…AGAIN!  Why do you think that is?  What is it about that one place or area that seems to continually draw dirt, grime, and clutter?  Take your time.  Ruminate over it.  Talk to Spirit about it.  Plan on manifesting a solution!  Think of space-saving ways that are unique and creative that show your individuality.  Have you ever moved something repeatedly?  Or, maybe you have to stand up to click the remote for the television because that table is in the way; but, you never bother to move the table…things like that.  Use this thirty days to think of creative ways to make life easier for yourself.  Write those down in your notebook, too.

What if there is too much clutter to get to today?  That’s okay.  Do the best you can today.  Tomorrow is another day.  If you make an effort — then you get a gold star.

Great Release Program Calendar

Last year I provided a calendar for you to mark off your progress.  As you complete each task in the program, give yourself a gold star on that date.  For every seven gold stars you earn, you are encouraged to treat yourself to something special!  Some days, like today, there is a chance to earn double stars.  Today, if you clear out the clutter AND made your wish list, then you get two gold stars.

The calendar can also help you plan appointments that relate to this year’s challenge.  For example, every year we have a Personal Care Day.  You can choose any day you like.  Simply switch the day’s task given to you on the blog with your chosen Personal Care Day.  Do the recommendation on the blog on a different day.  You might want to make an appointment for a haircut, a wellness visit to the doctor, spend an afternoon at the spa, or go shopping at your favorite health food store.  We also have a Vehicle Day — where you clean out the glove compartment, the trunk and the interior of your vehicle.  You might want to schedule a day to have the oil changed, the tires checked, or something else that is vehicle related.  Perhaps you plan to clean your carpets this year and decide to pick a day to rent the cleaner and wish to write that information on your calendar.  How you use your calendar is entirely up to you.

Use this calendar to mark your progress!
Use this calendar to mark your progress!

Today’s Review

1.  Begin with Braucherie Morning Ritual.
2.  Light your goal candle and repeat your goal.
3.  Try the Potential Affirmation
4.  Clear out all the clutter in your living (or office) environment.
5.  Write a Wish List of what you would like to accomplish this year.
6.  Pin up your calendar and give yourself a Gold Star!

For Tomorrow

You will need broom, mop, vacuum cleaner, an old pot and a wooden spoon (or a clean canning jar with lid and an assortment of jingle bells),  holy water and a white candle.

  1. Silver, I’m a minimalist, and so don’t have much in the way of things to put on the Wish List, in terms of things to clean or get rid of from my belongings. Should I replace those with non-physical things I’d like to clean and get rid of by the year’s end? Thank you for doing this. 🙂

  2. Thank you for a wonderful day 1. I’m going to join along with you cleaning and releasing.

  3. Im so taking this challenge,, and it is so very needed, Today I will clean storage area where holiday and other misc. stuff is stored (we loving refer to this place as “hell”) So Im cleaning out hell today !! Christmas/Yule items are there that need to come out, and in general Hell needs straightened around. Some pretty old dusty stuff in there. Thanks for doing this and bright blessings.

  4. much needed I have been slowly going around getting rid of this or that getting organized but I really needed the motivational push and support of others to really get this done! Thanks

  5. PHEW!! ok well so far the living room is uncluttered and half of the kitchen table is semi uncluttered and half of the laundry is done and put away. taking a rest now and then will either do the dishes or finish the laundry.

  6. ok did the dishes, cleaned out the fridge, bathroom tidied up, need to finish doing the laundry, and then concentrate on the computer room and the bedroom and go thru all my clothes and pick out what i need to donate. Then should be all good! now if only i can get my bf to put away his clothes and stuff. I keep putting his stuff in piles for him to put them away, where he wants them, clothes and etc. but he’s busy playing video games! UGH!
oh shoot, and i need to put all the yule decorations up! GOOD GRIEF! a womens work is never done!

    1. oh kathleen, i feel your pain,so to speak, i work about 100 hours in 2 weeks as a nurse in a prison and then come home to my farm. every thing seems overwelming today because theres so much to do but ill do the best i can, in love and light , mary

      1. I would clean the video game /computer “area”.. but that’s “his” side of the computer room.. so we responsible for our own sides of the room.. i don;t mess with his he dont mess with mine!… unless his mess starts coming over onto my side… in which case i gather it all up and dump it on his computer chair!! *evil grin* then he HAS to clean it in order to sit down! 🙂

  7. First of all, thank you Mama Silver for running this program again! It couldn’t have come at a better time in life. Actually I have been purging, recycling, donating and releasing physically and non-physically for the past 9 months in preparation for moving out of an 1800 sq foot house I had been living in for 8 years. I lost count of the car loads leaving the driveway a long time ago. Lol. Yet here I sit in the new place amazed at how much crap we still have, drowning in sea of boxes and chaos. I realized a couple weeks ago I still have some work to do on all levels to make room for my new life. So I am a committed virgin to your program, but may need to adapt it a bit to my circumstances. For instance today’s task would take DAYS to complete given the state of my home right now. Instead I will focus on one place the bathroom. It will be cleaned THOROUGHLY, including cabinets, shelves, drawers. The three boxes of crap sitting in there now will be sorted through, purged, recycled or unpacked and organized. Then wish list will be complete. It shall be done. SMIB! :0)

      1. Hm… at the moment the only suggestion is thinking small. If I look around in a broad Gemini-like way at the chaotic mess I am living in and all that needs to be done, I am completely overwhelmed, stressed and depressed. So everyday I adopt a focused, Virgo-like attitude, pick one thing that will be accomplished for the day, such as unpacking and organizing all the books, or wiping out and down the kitchen cupboards, and then pretend I am living in a tunnel and the rest just doesn’t exist. I figure at some point it will actually look like I am making progress right? Lol.

      2. I’d love to see something that would meld our energies into our new places. Some small little ritual that makes the place, “ours”, spiritually.

  8. So far so good! Everyone is doing such a great job I feel you all helping me along the way Give Thanks! I have finished the kitchen and computer area living room now to tackle the upstairs! Thanking my sweet love for helping with the living room without questions asked, he just stepped in and started helping! I love him! And too think I almost went into Boss mode last night to tell him his role and defeated that notion and just let him know what I was doing and how excited I was to get started. Changes occurring on day one! Beautiful

  9. this is the day ive waited for. the beginning of the 2012 challenge. this old dust bin body is going to get all sparkely clean.again, so many things to do. so many changes to see. thank you silver for giving me a clean new me. my goal… to be the best person i can be….my friends and family deserve that…and so do i

  10. Whew! Got a workout today! I made my wish list and I’m now focused on creating the space for my wishes to become real in the physical world. Tall order. I started getting rid of the clutter today. Shredded so much paper that I destroyed one shredder and the other one got so hot it wouldn’t work anymore. But finished the job. Got rid of old computer books that were years out dated too. Tomorrow is another day. I’m going to relax now and create a digital drawing. This is a great Challenge, thanks.

  11. I love reading everyone’s comments. Knowing that others are working on this Challenge helps me keep going. Oh, the clutter pain! I could spend the entire 30 days working on just the challenge for Day 1, and there would still probably be more left to do. (Yes, it is that bad!). I am working on my living room. I can finally see the couch again, and I found some items that I have looked for, unsuccessfully, for months. 🙂 Woot! I can burn up some stuff in my fireplace, which will save wear and tear on the shredder. It feels SO good, just to get started.

    1. I am glad to hear your Day 1 went well! Remember, you can do this! We are all supporting and empowering each other by posting our experience with the challenge.

    2. I agree Valerie I have come back during my breaks and feel very encourage to read that others are working away Freeing from the clutter YEA!

      1. Sorry about spelling your name incorrectly!!! I’m so embarrassed, but I fixed it. I didn’t think the way I was typing it was right, then I looked at the calendar I printed and taped to my notebook, and I swore it had an “e” at the end. I just looked on here in your reply and back at the calendar and it is as if it has magically changed!!?? Thank you for checking out the blog!

  12. First of all this is brilliant, second we got started well, third we ended up repairing half the wardrobe that came down while I was hoovering near it. What the… Nothing worse happened, all I’ll have is an aching body as I caught half of it while it fell.
I suppose the good thing to see in this having happened is:
It could have been worse if I’d have been standing differently (not bent down to hoover, hah!) and if the entire thing would have come down.
It also made me get rid of the dust that had been on the upper part of it which I else couldn’t have reached.
It made me throw away a couple of bags that were stored there.
So this was day one (it’s past midnight here, so day two already). I wish for accident free upcoming days. 🙂

    1. Ouch! I am glad you see the good that came from the accident. 🙂 My leg went numb while I was sorting mail and trash under my end table so when I stood up my bad knee wasn’t hurting LOL. Good luck as we continue this journey together, though far apart!

      1. Ah well, I guess we have to expect a casualty or two… and as long as it’s just the odd ache or numb leg it’s ok. 😀 Good luck to you too! 🙂

  13. THERE!! the house is 95% uncluttered!! plus i managed to make brownies and clean up after myself!! why only 95%? well cause there’s little bits and bobs piles of stuff here and there that i can;t find any room for right now, so i just made neat little piles until i can figure out what to do with them. i’m good at that.. “making piles of stuff”. Didn;t get to clean out my closet of old clothes, too tired for that, but did manage to bring the yule stuff up from the basement, haven’t put any of it up yet!

  14. While I don’t have a lot of stuff hanging out on my floor (most of my junk is tucked away in closets and drawers), I started working on some space by my desk which had a stack of books that I am “reading” (since I read multiple books in tandem, my stack of books I am currently reading can reach dozens). It led me to move some books around (though the full book organization got put on my wish list), pull a bunch of catalogs I had stored up (going to clip pictures from them and then toss them), and go through stacks of paper from folders in my desk. Tossed about five inches of paper trash from my desk. Also finally hung the two scrolls we took down when we bought our new freezer….in February!

For the morning ritual and the Sea of Potential, I made a little knotted cord from an old shoelace (I keep them for knotwork and string magic when the shoes wear out before the laces do…or in case we break a lace and need replacements). Just folded it in half and tied 9 knots in it so that I don’t have to think about how many times I’ve said things and can focus on what I am saying. I figure I’ll loop it around my wrist or hang it from my belt so I have it with me all month!

  15. This day went great got to finish my de cluttering for the day Gold Star ! I look forward to continuing the Challenge with all of you! way to go everyone

  16. Alright! Today I started off a bit slow but I’m getting the hang of it! I just got rid of a really old and un-used jacket and will start making a nicer, cleaner path way from the door to my dresser on my side of my room right away! I feel better already.

  17. I actually finished going through, sorting and putting away the bag of mail and a large box of clutter I wisked off surfaces about a month ago! Also donated a bunch of board games that have sat in the closet for 5 years.

  18. 2 bags of garbage to the bin, 1 box and two bags of donations to the charity shop, 2 bags of things for friends. Quite the release for the first day! This is the very best Yule gift one could give themselves. Thank you again so much for doing this.

  19. what is wrong with me silver? i seem so confused. part of me wants to work hard on becoming a beter witch, a better stronger person. and part of me says, damn autumn…. you need a new vehicle so bad! work towards that…… a part of me wishes for a stronger spirituality and the other side says omg girl abundance, work for abundance ive struggled so long!!!!!!!! it doesnt stop there….. do the floors? but then i say omg, ive got to clean this kitchen first !!! and then nothing seems to get done. its so overwelming !!! HELP

    1. One step at a time, sweetie. *hugs* How’s that saying go? The longest of journeys begins with the first step? You’re making room in your life for that abundance as we speak!

  20. I have a couple of questions. I am very enthused about doing this, but wonder if I’m doomed before I begin for a couple of reasons and would like some opinions. First, I’m disabled due to chronic severe pain and some muscleskelatol issues which gets me bedridden on some days and limited function ability on others. Not to mention I take VERY strong pain medication that cloud my mind to some degree. Ever since my diagnosis over 10yrs ago I have limited my magickal workings because I was afraid my pain and meds would interfere with my energy & cause and working to go haywire. So should I avoid doing this due to that? Secondly, while Im nothing like the people on the tv show, my family & friends to consider me a SLIGHT hoarder. My issue is that I have the condition called superior autobiographical memory disorder, so I can remember almost everything that has happened in my entire life. Down to what I was wearing on a day, what I ate,& when I memory comes back its like I’m reliving it. The items I have therefore have significant emotional attachment cause they help to trigger the memories,& I therefore have trouble getting rid of the most insignificant things. I’m talking pieces of paper, old receipts, clothes, etc. Every once in a while I can get rid of some stuff. And no, I do not live in squaler. Everything is packed away so if you came over you’d never know. I’ve had a very bad couple of years where Ive essentially lost all desire for anything due to some losses I’ve suffered, so this ritual would probably be very beneficial for me. I’m just wondering given my conditions if its realistic that given my health & “collecting” that I could do it. I know I’m supposed to do anything I put my mind to,& that probably would work for a great deal of the clutter, but I’m wondering if with meds clouding my mind & energy & my body having a mind of its own if this is too ambitious. I just don’t want another let down. Any input would be extremely appreciated! Thank you so much for taking the time to read so much!

    1. If you think you are doomed before you begin…you are. If you think you’d like to try, and if you want to succeed, you will. Remember, you only have to release one thing per day — all the rest of the ideas are there for your use. As to the magick, I realize your concern; however, if you think you automatically make magick — it is natural. Give it a whirl!

  21. Day One was a success – though my Altar for the challenge is still a WIP(work-in-progress).
Cleared the clutter that was there to clear – Not to much, I am a minimalist, as well as being in a temporary space. But I swear, even the little bit that needed doing -and got done- I can feel the difference 🙂
Did what I never got around to doing during last year’s challenge, and made a small set of prayer beads -9- so I can stop counting while also chanting 😛
Used a gemstone, and a string color that suited what I need in my life. 🙂
    Thank you, Silver!

  22. I’M VERY TIRED. WITHOUT FORCE. I DID A LOT OF EFFORT TO CLEAN AND I CAN NOT FOCUS ON WHAT I WANT. WHAT CAN I DO?
